The naive quest…
Okay, so last June I hiked up Half-Dome with four friends from work. As we made it back down safely and full of adrenalin, I foolishly suggested that ‘next year, we should all get back together and hike up Mt. Whitney’. So… Kev and I are entertaining the idea that we could actually make it. I figure that I should at least try walking a bit before we attempt the real thing and thought I would mix in my walking reports with the surf reports on this page. We’ll see how it goes…
Today, I started easy with a walk down the beach, finishing at the hang gliders take off spot in Ft. Funston. The walk was fantastic. I’m loving the christmas ipod and being surrounded by dogs at the halfway point was awesome as well. My legs were definitely sore at the end, so sure enough, it seems I need the practice.
7 miles and 120 vertical feet
overcast/raining – 50 degrees
3 1/2 hours

Only 6,013 vertical feet to go and you’ll match the climb, minus the altitude and the overall distance :-]

whatever man… we’ve charted the full moons, the meteor showers, the friday off days, the summer non-storm window… we already have the desktop images for motivation. We’re sending in the permit application on the 1st… all that’s left is the walk to the top of the friggin united states!
